The centre is governed by a Constitution. The committee consists predominately of elderly and disabled people from West Balkan living in London and users of the centre. BHCAC is a highly valued and the only resource for the West Balkan community in London. The charity is organised so that the trustees meet quarterly to direct its affairs which are carried out by 2 full-time and 1 part-time staff members and 21 volunteers. The centre aims to improve the quality of life of the Balkan community, most of who are elderly, physically or mentally disabled refugees from a vicious war (1992-95) that targeted innocent civilians. The centre provides support through the provision of a wide and varied range of services and activities.
It is the foremost Balkan community organisation in London and the only one in the UK offering such comprehensive range of free support services for elderly West Balkans. Every effort is made to ensure that these services are delivered professionally to a high standard. BHCAC is accredited with the quality marks;
- Pqasso level 1 in 2004 and level 2 in 2005.
- Investors in People in 2005, reassessment in 2008 and 2012.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina Community Advice Centre seeks to enhance the quality of life for disadvantaged members of the elderly West Balkan community who arrived in London as refugees in the early 1990’s, specifically those in poverty and isolation. The Centre supports their diverse needs through the provision of welfare, educational and cultural services at a welcoming Centre for all people from West Balkan.
